No Tolls at Area Bridges on Christmas Holiday

Lewiston-Queenston, Rainbow and Whirlpool bridge crossings to

offer travel free of charge

LEWISTON, NY – Today the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission (NFBC) announced that it will not charge tolls in celebration of the Christmas holiday.

The toll-free period will be in effect for 24 hours, beginning at 11:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Saturday, December 24, 2016 and ending at 11:30 p.m. on Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25, 2016 for the Lewiston-Queenston, Rainbow and Whirlpool bridge crossings.

“It is our pleasure to forego toll collection as a gift to Canadian and American travelers,” said Lew Holloway, General Manager of the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission.  “We’re also happy to do so as a gesture of gratitude to our employees for another year of hard work.  The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission and its partners are looking forward to a wonderful 2017.”

About the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission:

A Joint Resolution of the 1938 U.S. Congressional Third Session created the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission The Extra Provincial Corporations Act of the Province of Ontario, Canada licenses the NFBC. Canada and the U.S. are equally represented on the NFBC by an eight-member Board of Commissioners. Initially established to finance, construct and operate the Rainbow Bridge, the Commission proved sufficiently efficient and effective to assume responsibilities for the Whirlpool Rapids (Lower) and Lewiston-Queenston Bridges. The NFBC builds and maintains all facilities for Customs and Immigration functions on both sides of the international border. The NFBC is self-supportive, largely through user fees (tolls) and private-sector tenant leases. NFBC is federally chartered to conduct international commercial financial transactions and issue federal (U.S.) tax-exempt bonds.

Niagara Falls' reputation as a natural world wonder and honeymoon capital of the planet beckons visitors from around the globe.

But it is the bridges that actually bring most of them here.

No other single factor contributes more to tourism growth - indeed the export trade economy overall - than the NFBC's three monumental linkages of concrete and steel. Niagara Falls crossings rank second only to Kennedy International as the busiest port of entry between the U.S. and Canada. If you are about to travel over Niagara's gorge, your vehicle will take one of about 7.2 million passages expected this year on NFBC bridges.
